Shopping with Sandy: Bohemian Style

This week, we decided to do something a little different.

We picked a theme for the fashion: Bohemian and Preppy

Day 1: Bohemian

First stop is Francesca's
This is a cute store with not just awesome clothes and shoes, but also some pretty cool... Nifty things!

Then we wandered down and stopped in Icing:

After that we hit Stïl:
We LOVED that shop. Nice ladies and just an awesome pair of ladies. Sandy and I want wear their awesome clothes.

After a quick stop at Yankee Candle...

Next up, was Böhme:

Last, we went into Lemon Ice [Formally Hope Ave Clothing]

What clothes do you like? Anything jump out? Be sure to visit the shops and see if you can pick it up.

Changing yourself for the wrong reasons

Bored out of my mind one day, I started to watch a TV show called ‘Too Close For Comfort’. It was a short lived sitcom, lasting about 5 seasons. Interesting and all that.

Mom and dad have two college age daughters and are living in a too small apartment in half a house. When the only other tenant moves out, the girls move into it together, giving them some space from mom and dad.

Anywho, second episode I’ve watched has this guy friend of theirs who is in his 20’s and is a virgin. He talks to the girls dad about his ‘problem’ and how to solve it. Mom then talks to the girls about it, including telling the blond ‘pretty’ one that she’ll have to change how she dresses. No more sexy and tight clothes.

I’m not much of a feminist, but this pissed me off and I did in fact yell at the TV ‘Why the fuck should she change how she’s dressed?’

Honestly, I didn’t care for her clothes, but saying she should change just to keep their male friend, who happens to be searching for a way to ‘fix’ his sexual problem.

I can’t count the ways in which this bothered me.

Now, I’m not talking about breaking a rule and then saying ‘Stupid you, its a bad rule and I’ll do what I want… What do you mean I’m in trouble?'

Stupid rule or not, break it and you can expect to get in trouble.

No, I’m talking about the rules in general. “Girls can’t wear this, guys will get distracted.” “She had it coming, with how she was dressed.” “He was shirtless, asking for me to touch him."

Not being allowed to wear what I want because I may ‘distract’ someone else is bullshit.

Implying that because I wore something, I deserved to be treated badly or have attentions forced upon me is bullshit.

I don’t care what your sex is, if its not your body its off limits without permission. Unless there is a LEGITIMATE reason, what I wear is none of your business.

There are always going to be ‘reasons’, but most won’t be good. Most are nothing more than an excuse to let the culprit transfer blame.

Review: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

Yesterday I finished reading Dark Places, what I think is the third book by Gillian Flynn.

She's most known for her book Gone Girl, which was also made into a successful movie. So far, it's yet to interest me. But this one did.

Here's what I was left with at the end... "Um... Ok, sure. I can go with that."

No spoilers, but it felt as if the ending was confusing and filled with a 'Wait, what?' thought process. Having had nothing but a simple mention of a person, only to have them take a somewhat larger role in it all, made no sense at all.

And honestly, I don't care what you think you're doing, the choices made by people are crazy to me.

I walked away from the story, not disliking it but sensing that Ms. Flynn had concocted an elaborate scheme that she had to tap dance her way out of.

Re: Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt

I couldn't do it.

Got about 100 pages in, but NOTHING was happening. Oh, the MC was making lists, but... It felt like she jumped at a chance to dump her boyfriend, then never gave him a chance to talk to her about it. Not gonna lie, it sounds like he was a cheating jerk.

But that doesn't mean he was. And her actions are suspect on how she found out about it. I mean, so you see something online. Jumping to conclusions isn't the way to go.

And following that up with 'I'm dropping the modern world' seems like a bad idea.  Worse, she forces someone else to do it too.

So, I've returned the book and am moving on to the next. Let ya know how that goes.
